Part 1 - trace your head - make a silhouette

Part 2 - collage your brain

My Beautiful Brain art-sci workshop was part of The Neo-Political Cowgirls 2024 ‘January Girls’ intergenerational workshops for girls and women ages 6-106.

We were joined by neuroscientist and memory researcher Liz Siefert, who shared the fundamentals of neuroscience, beginning with early historical drawings of neurons, and explaining the role of different lobes of the brain in supporting our five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) + the ‘sixth' sense of our body - proprioception, which guides balance, muscles, and movement. Together we explored the power of neurodiversity through the inspiring work of scientist, author, and autism activist Temple Grandin.

Textile collage is itself a sensory experience - it allowed us to engage with a rich collection of fabric textures + colors. We spent time touching, cutting, shaping, gluing, looking, listening, and moving our bodies while sharing brain curiosities and imaginings.
